Light Blues shine in BUCS: A term full of success!
League and Knockouts
Fifty-three teams took to the court, pitch, piste, and pool in Michaelmas for the start of their BUCS league and Knockout season! Two new teams entered their respective leagues this year, with CU Association Football entering a women’s second and men’s third team!
With 290 fixtures completed, fourteen Cambridge teams are still unbeaten in the league, notably; Lacrosse W1 and Tennis W1 who have impressed in their respective BUCS Premier Divisions! Michaelmas also brought some great performances from the Light Blues within knockout competitions. Netball 4, Football M3, Volleyball M2, and Badminton W1 are amongst those who have made it to the latter stages and will be looking to continue on their good runs after the break. Also eyeing up knockout success next term will be our Premier Division teams, with the well anticipated start of the National Championships competitions. Fencing W1/M1, Hockey W1/M1, Lacrosse W1, Rugby Union W1, Volleyball W1, and Tennis W1 all await to see who they will be facing at the conclusion of their league seasons in February!

Individual Events
Away from our league and knockout fixtures, we can celebrate successes across a number of individual BUCS competitions. Asha Sykes picked up a second consecutive silver medal at the BUCS Surf Championship, followed by additional silvers for Tim Hire at the Sailing Fleet Racing Championships, and Sannah Zaman (UCAPP) at the Cycling Hill Climb at the start of Michaelmas!
CU Taekwondo continued to represent well at BUCS Events this term, picking up eleven medals at the Autumn Championship, including golds for Elizabeth McCall, Cosmo Calesini, Jude Borgan, and Tarina Franklin! The Light Blues have further represented well in a range of individual events, including; BUCS Short Course Swimming, Squash and Table Tennis Individual Championships, and Short Range Rifle Championship, as well as team events in Touch Rugby, Indoor Ultimate, Korfball, and Handball.
The final event of the term was the BUCS Clay Pigeon Championship, where Cambridge picked up women’s team gold, men’s team bronze, and an individual silver for Liz Stevenson!
Cambridge currently are sitting 14th in the BUCS Medal table, 25th in the overall BUCS Points table, and 13th in the Women’s standings! After the break, we’re looking forward to another packed term of winning Wednesdays, individual medals, BUCS Nationals, and much more!
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas, and best wishes for 2025!
