We are delighted to announce that the winner of the Unsung Hero Award is... Ben Geytenbeek!
Darwin College student and Gates Cambridge scholar Ben Geytenbeek works tirelessly behind the scenes in the CU Real Tennis Club. Whilst carefully balancing PhD study, Ben spends countless hours committed to the development and sustainability of CURTC.
“Ever since Ben joined the club four years ago, he has fully immersed himself into the club activities, not just on the student side but also interacting with our 250+ non-student (senior) members.
His dedication and commitment to enhancing members’ experience at CURTC exemplifies the qualities of an unsung hero”.
From supporting new players and organising inter-university tournaments, to dragging a ‘creaky’ bookings system into the 21st century with the implementation of a state-of-the-art platform to support all CURTC activities, as well as facilitating online streaming of matches in response to the pandemic, Ben has been involved in every area of the Real Tennis Club and has had a huge impact on the members and wider community.
“Based on Ben’s countless contributions to our Club going well beyond the call of duty, he is a truly outstanding candidate for this award”.
A truly worthy winner of the Unsung Hero award – congratulations to Ben!
