UCAPP Athlete Profile: Louise Shanahan - Athletics

Name: Louise Shanahan

College: Trinity

Studying: PhD Physics 

 

What are your goals for this sporting year?

"To secure qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics"

 

Louise's sporting achievements over the past two years include competing in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and being a National record holder. Louise is a member of the Cambridge University Hare & Hounds and is the current Honorary Secretary on the Club committee. This sporting year, Louise aims to place in the top twenty at the National Cross-Country, top ten in the BUCS Cross-Country, and place in the top five in the BUCS 5000m

Louise is a PhD student in the Atomic Mesoscopic and Optical Physics group, as part of the Winton programme for the physics of sustainability at the Cavendish Laboratory. Her work looks at nano diamonds and their use in measuring cells properties. Alongside her studies, Louise excels in middle distance running, becoming European youth Champion, Irish champion and representing Ireland in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
