Squash

 

Squash is a fast-paced racket sport played in a four-walled court, where players hit a small rubber ball against the front wall. The goal is to make the ball bounce twice before the opponent can return it. Whether you are looking to try a new sport or want to improve your skills, come along and play squash in a social relaxed environment.

Badminton

Badminton is a fast-paced racket sport played either as singles (one player per side) or doubles (two players per side). Players hit a shuttlecock over a net, aiming to land it in the opponent's court. The game emphasizes agility, strategy, and precision. It's popular worldwide and can be played both indoors and outdoors.

Dodgeball

Dodgeball is a team sport where players throw soft balls at opponents while trying to avoid being hit. The game typically involves two teams, and players are eliminated if they’re hit, catch a ball, or step out of bounds. The objective is to eliminate all players on the opposing team. It’s fast-paced and encourages agility and teamwork.

Volleyball

Volleyball is a team sport where two teams, typically of six players each, are separated by a high net. The objective is to score points by hitting a ball over the net and landing it in the opponent's court. Teams can use three touches to return the ball. This beginner friendly session is a great way to learn the key skills and enjoy game play in a relaxed social environment.

Football

Whether you have played football before or not, this is the session for you! If you are looking to try something new, or simply wishing to improve on your skills and techniques then come along to this fun and social session.

Location: CURUFC, Grange Road Rugby Ground, Grange Road, CB3 9BN (Outdoor, grass pitch) Meet at the back pitch behind the main pitch!

Basketball

Basketball is a team sport played on a rectangular court, where two teams aim to score points by shooting a ball through the opponent's hoop. Each team consists of five players who dribble, pass, and shoot the ball. If you are looking to play basketball recreationally or just want to come along and shoot some hoops in a social environment, then this is the session for you. Dare to be the next Caitlin Clark?

Lacrosse

Lacrosse is a team sport played with a small ball and a long-handled stick called a crosse. Lots of students try Lacrosse for the first time when starting at Cambridge, so you'll be in the company of other beginners in a warm, friendly and encouraging environment to develop your skills.

Location: Newnham College Sports Ground, Sidgwick Avenue, Cambridge CB3 9DF (outdoor grass) Meet at the Newnham College sports ground off Barton Road (also accessible from Sidgwick Avenue through the college)

Touch Rugby

Touch rugby is a non-contact variation of rugby where two teams aim to score by touching the ball down in the opponent's end zone. Players must pass the ball backward and avoid being touched by defenders. Looking to play rugby in a social and non-contact environment?

This is a really sociable activity and a modern twist on the classic British sport of Rugby! Want to develop your skills, meet like-minded individuals and enjoy playing touch recreationally, this is the session for you.

Tennis

Tennis is a racket sport played between two players (singles) or two teams of two (doubles). Players hit a ball over a net onto the opponent’s court, aiming to score points by making it land within the boundaries. Looking to ace your serve, work on your forehand or perfect your volley? Or simply just wanting to work on your rallying, then these sessions are the one for you. Come along, pick up a racquet, play and develop your skills as you go.

Table Tennis

Table tennis, also known as ping pong, is a fast-paced indoor sport played on a rectangular table divided by a net. Two players (singles) or two teams of two (doubles) hit a lightweight ball back and forth using small paddles. Points are scored when the opponent fails to return the ball correctly. Whether you’re a casual table tennis player, or you haven’t played before, looking at coming along by yourself or with your friends for some social play. All ages and abilities are welcome to come and give table tennis a go, and to work on the skills of the table.

Cricket

Cricket is a bat and ball sport typically played between two teams, one team bats to score runs, while the other bowls and fields to dismiss players. Join us to develop your skills and continue your cricket season during the winter, as we head indoors and develop our bowling, batting and fielding skills.

A quintessentially English sport, cricket has been around for over 200 years, with Cambridge University Cricket Club being one of the first ever clubs.

Social Walking Group

The social walking group is a chance to explore some of the city and take a break away from studies, spend time outdoors in nature and to socialise whilst getting in some daily steps.

Meeting at different locations each week, and walking different routes around Cambridge, if you are looking to just walk and chat, capture some photos for your Instagram page, or increase your step count then this social walking group is the session for you. Come and explore Cambridge with other people and venture around the city.

Social Running Group

The social running group isn't about going fast or far. Runners of different levels meet every Wednesday, supporting and motivating each other in a relaxed, non-competitive environment. A group leader will support everyone to do around 30 minutes of running each week.
