Funding for Cambridge Athletes
Cambridge offers a number of awards, bursaries, and scholarships to students. You must already be admitted to the University to apply. For more information, see the University Bursary Scheme and your College's website.
We also have several funds to support University athletes. Find full details below.
The Eric Evans Fund
Friends and colleagues of the late Eric Evans set up this fund in 1996. Eric Evans was a St Catharine's College graduate who earned a Full Blue playing for the University Football Club against Oxford in 1975 and 1976.
The Director of Sport and two members elected by the University's Sports Committee manage the fund.
Who is it for?
The fund supports two groups of students: athletes who compete at national or international level, and students who want to gain coaching or officiating qualifications.
Performance Athletes
If you currently compete at national level, you can apply to the fund for support. This includes representing Cambridge at European or World Student competitions, or competing internationally for yourself or your country.
The fund managers consider all applications, but the maximum award is normally £300 per person. Apply once you know the specific costs of your event or competition, such as travel, entry fees, and accommodation.
Funding for coaching and officiating qualifications
The fund also supports students who want to gain a coaching or officiating qualification. You'll need to show how this will benefit sport or physical activity at the University, your college, or the local community.
You can apply for support more than once. If you want to progress your coaching or officiating career, apply to the Eric Evans Fund again.
If you haven't booked a place on a course yet but plan to, we can offer an "in principle" award. We'll confirm this once you've secured your place.
Applications
We review awards once a term at most. If you apply outside of term time, your application will take longer to process. If you need a decision urgently, make this clear on your application and email us using the address below.
Apply via our Microsoft Form.

The Hawks Charitable Trust
Members set up this Trust in January 1996 with a small endowment. The Trust gives grants to current Cambridge students whose sporting activities are limited by financial constraints.
For more information, including how to apply, visit the Hawks website.
Applications usually open in February.
