UCAPP Powerlifter Invited onto British Open Team
5th year Veterinary Medicine Student Lucy Hart has been invited onto the British Open Powerlifting Team for 2020 following her results at the British Equipped Championships last weekend.
Lucy’s total lift was a strong personal best (PB) at 435kg, her previous best being 412.5kg. The impressive performance put her in third place overall. Her lifts included a 12.5kg Squat PB at 180kg and matching her bench and deadlift PB at 90kg and 165kb respectively.
Lucy is supported by the University of Cambridge Athlete Performance Programme (UCAPP). The Programme supports University of Cambridge students who are nationally ranked or who represent their country on the international stage in their chosen sport.
Speaking after the competition, Lucy, who is Women’s Captain of the University Powerlifting Club said “I’m very pleased with my performance. I’m excited for the rest of the year and very grateful for the support of the scheme.”
The UCAPP initiative was established thanked to the generosity and support of alumnus Mark Hanson (Girton, 1985) who was a Modern Pentathlete whilst studying at Cambridge.
