Medal Haul for Cambridge at the BUCS Outdoor Athletics Championships!

Five medals won across the weekend at the BUCS Outdoor Athletics Championships!

Cambridge showed their athletic credentials, making it a hugely successful weekend at the final BUCS Athletics event of the year. Despite the competition moving to Manchester from Bedford this year, a strong contingent from Cambridge travelled north, representing Cambridge University Athletic Club and Cambridge University Hare and Hounds.

Six of the students representing Cambridge are also part of the UCAPP programme, including Angus Harrington, Jeremy Dempsey, Reese Robinson, Niamh Bridson Hubbard, Adam Dray, and Joe Massingham.

As well as the five medals, several more students reached finals and narrowly missed out on a podium place. All in all, a super weekend for Cambridge! Some of the top results  included:

  • Gold medal for Angus Harrington (St. John's) in 800m, making him BUCS Champion for 2022-23
  • Silver for Jeremy Dempsey (Girton) in 1500m
  • Bronze for Reese Robinson (Jesus) in Triple Jump
  • Bronze for Niamh Bridson Hubbard (Magdalene) in 1500m
  • Bronze for Mary Adeniji (Newnham) in Long Jump
  • 4th place for Terry Fawden (Wolfson) in 300m Steeplechase
  • 4th place for Peter Cassidy (Trinity Hall) in Hammer Throw
  • 6th place for Marley Young (Trinity) and Leonie Brunning (Emmanuel) in Shot Put

Well done to all who competed for Cambridge! You can see Cambridge University Athletic Club in action again on Sunday 7th May, when they take on Oxford in the annual Outdoor Varsity Event at Wilberforce Road Sports Ground, Cambridge, CB3 9AD.
