This weekend saw the Blues undefeated in the first two matches of the season against Little Aston Golf Club and the Wigorns Golfing Society. On two wonderfully sunny days in the Midlands the standard of golf reflected the hard work put in by all players over the summer and gave reason to believe in a promising term to come for the Cambridge golfers.
On Saturday, the team was 2-3 behind after the foursomes, however after a typically revitalising lunch at Little Aston, the CUGC fought back to halve the match with notable singles wins by Cumberland and Rietschel in the strong top half of the draw.
The match on Sunday against the Wigorns Golfing Society saw even better weather and even better golf with the CUGC establishing a 3-2 lead at lunchtime. The great hospitality of Wigorns members was very well received, but despite attempts at breaking records for the longest lunch break in fixture history, the Cambridge golfers never let go of this lead and strong foursomes play allround resulted in the Club's first victory of the season.
The coming weekend, the Blues will be travelling to London to play against West Hill Golf Club.
