CUBC prepares for Wallingford Head

After a solid Fours’ Head result, CUBC’s boats for this weekend’s Wallingford Head have been selected to ensure that crews are as even as coaches Rob Baker and Richard Chambers can make them. Polish Olympian Natan Wegrzycki-Szymczyk (Peterhouse) moves to the stroke seat of Goldie A, backed up by Australian international Sam Hookway (Peterhouse), coxed by the experienced Matthew Holland (Caius). Their competing stern pair in Goldie B represents a blend of Boat Race experience and youth, with CUBC Vice-President Freddie Davidson (Emmanuel), stroke of the winning 2018 Blue Boat, teaming up with second year Music student Callum Sullivan (Downing) in a boat that contains 2019 CUBC President Dara Alizadeh (Hughes Hall).

The coaches are expecting close racing from the 8s as they lead into the CUBC Trial 8s on December 10th, and Chief Coach Rob Baker notes that this weekend’s racing at Wallingford ‘provides a great opportunity for the 2019 CUBC squad to get out of our comfort zone at Ely. We are looking forward to testing two equally matched Eights on a different stretch of water against some very strong opposition.'
