Cambridge University Dancesport Team Win Nationals for Ninth Consecutive Year

The Cambridge University Dancesport Team (CUDT) sent 120 dancers to Blackpool last weekend to take part in the Nationals. Competing against 29 other Universities, the Cambridge dancers were awarded the national title for the ninth year running.

The Inter Varsity Dance Competition (IDVC) is an annual student dancesport competition organised by the Inter Varsity Dance Association (IDVA). Thanks to TV Shows such as Strictly Come Dancing, the IDVC is consistently popular attracting students from across the country. Since 2007, the competition has been hosted in the Winter Garden Ballroom in Blackpool.

The Cambridge team had many individual successes, with one of their couples winning the pre-intermediate ballroom event and another winning the intermediate ballroom event. In additional to the individual successes, they also managed to have one or two couples in the finals of almost every category, demonstrating the strength in depth of the Cambridge dancers.

Final results had Cambridge taking home the trophies for:

  • Best Overall University Team
  • University Showing the most Progression
  • Best C Team
  • Best D Team
  • Best E Team
  • Best F Team
  • Best Beginners Cha Cha Cha
  • Best Ex-Student Team

Full results of the competition are available here.
