The joy’s of aging:

Typically an aging adult will lose 30% of their muscle mass and maximal strength from ages 40 – 70

HOWEVER……

We know the best anti-aging medicine for muscle loss = STRENGTH TRAINING

1 in 3 adults over 65 who live at home will have at least one fall a year, and about half of these will have more frequent falls. Strength and balance have been shown to reduce the risk of falls (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/falls/).

What sort of Strength Training?

Effectiveness of training is maximised through the scientific application of functional strength and power exercises.

What are functional exercises?

Exercises need to be done in an unsupported, three dimensional environment that requires the brain to coordinate muscles into patterns of movement. (e.g. predominantly using bodyweight and free weight exercise rather than machines.)

The specifics: what can training do for your golf?

  • Strength Training will Improve Club Head Speed resulting in an increase in ball distance.
  • Lower injury risk by building a stronger and more resilient body that can cope better with the demands placed upon it. (= more golf!)
  • Improve swing mechanics through better strength, stability, mobility and balance.
  • Keep going right until the end of your round with improved muscular and cardio endurance.
