BUTTS Championships and Ball

On Sunday 3rd March a group of 17 Cambridge University Bowmen Archers made the trek out to Derby for the BUTTS Championships and Ball. They joined 12 other universities from across divisions 1 and 2 of the BUTTS league for one of the final Portsmouth rounds of the indoor season. CUB would like to thank the Derby University Archery team for a fantastic large scale shoot!

After the shoot 13 of our archers continued to the much anticipated BUTTS ball, all in matching masks for the masquerade theme. The tables were named by round and had our archers socialising with others from the BUTTS league. Following the raffle draw, and some lovely speeches from Pip thanking her amazing club and Dave thanking the league and also Jack’s work as his shadow organiser, the scores for the league were announced.

We had an amazing effort from Jack Atkinson, coming second in the gents compound category and claiming his gold BUTTS badge! Kimberley Callaghan also came second in the experienced female barebow category and Andrew Browne came second in the gents longbow, however unfortunately neither received a medal, though Andrew did get the coveted mars bar.

The Ultimate Archer scores recognised Sam Day’s amazing novice year as he took out the gents novice recurve category! This trend continued with our novice team coming second across the BUTTS league, a massive congratulations to them! It has been an amazing season complete with lots of enthusiastic and successful archers and we are so proud of all of our members at CUB and thankful for their efforts.
