The University of Cambridge Sports Awards take place each year during Easter term to celebrate sporting achievement at Cambridge during the last 12 months. Please read the categories below, and consider the criteria carefully when making your nomination.
All achievements should have taken place between Easter Term 2024 and Lent Term 2025 (April 2024 to April 2025). To make a nomination, complete the form at the bottom of the page by Wednesday 14th May 2025. You may submit multiple nominations for different categories. We look forward to receiving your nominations!

Criteria |
Club of the Year
|
This award is based on the success in all areas of a club. The subject of the nomination form should highlight how the club has succeeded in the areas listed: participation, performance, leadership and club sustainability. Clubs should demonstrate the impact that has been made – e.g. rather than saying something was ‘really good’, state what made it really good in numbers and feedback. |
Team of the Year |
Awarded to the most successful sports team of the year in terms of performance and achievement. Specify the achievements of the team during the year and include any individual achievements of team members e.g. selection for World University Games, Home Nations. Team performance can be in BUCS or non-BUCS competition and is not limited to 1st teams. |
Sports Person of the Year
|
This award recognises the highest achieving athlete at the University of Cambridge. Please include all sporting achievements between Easter Term 2024 and Lent Term 2025, include competitions on behalf of the University as well as the club/country representative honours. |
Newcomer of the Year |
This award category recognises someone new to your club, college or committee who has made a great impact, which could be by achieving amazing results, supporting with club organisation, engaging new members, or otherwise making a positive difference! |
Unsung Hero |
This award recognises the individual that quietly does all the work that makes the club/team/college/league etc function. This is for all levels of sport at Cambridge it could be getting people more active, helping to get a college team out on the weekend, right through to supporting the Blues Teams. Please list significant achievements by the individual or ways in which they have contributed, including any instances where they have gone beyond the call of duty. Amongst your membership, please also consider coaches, support staff and committee members in this award. |
Outstanding Contribution |
This award is for outstanding contribution in all areas of sport and physical activity at the University of Cambridge beyond Club level over an extended period of time (e.g. their course duration at Cambridge). The contribution can be in a range of areas, for example but not limited to: playing, administration, college sport, committee positions, Hawks/Ospreys, media, club profile, volunteering, fundraising, wellbeing etc. |
Sports Club Personality of the Year |
The Sports Club Personality of the Year is the individual who is the life and soul of your club – they lift the mood and keep heads high. They might not necessarily be a Captain or committee member, but they’re loved by all and your club is a better one to be a part of because of them. |
Sporting Moment of the Year |
This award is for that sporting moment that will never be forgotten. An incredible catch, a goal in the final seconds, a new PB or simply winning Varsity! Tell us about that pivotal moment of your season that you will remembered by your teammates long after you have graduated. |
College Team of the Year |
This award is for recognising and celebrating the teams who best demonstrate the College sport values of respect, participation, sportsmanship and enjoyment. The award could be for a team who has actively improved the provision for the student community at their College with new or improved participation opportunities, or achieved success both on and off the pitch. |
