Simon Cornish

Simon has a BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Sciences from the University of Birmingham and a Postgraduate Certificate in Sports Management from the University of Leicester. Prior to joining the University Sports Service as Physical Education Officer  in 2006, Simon worked in sports facility management in the local authority and commercial sectors. Simon’s role changed to Head of Operations prior to the move to the University Sports Centre in 2013. He was a member of the Sports Centre Project Team, with specific focus on aligning the building design with the operation. The Head of Operations role includes oversight of the full operational staff team across the University Sports Centre, Fenner’s Cricket and Tennis Ground and the Wilberforce Road Sports Ground, as well as contributing to the support of University Sports Clubs and Facility Development.

As a youngster, Simon was a footballer who specialised in failing to impress in trials for a number professional clubs. He is a sporting  jack-of-all-trades, master of none who is now far more likely to spectate rather than partake, except for occasional gym sessions where he finds new and interesting ways to hurt himself on a Jacobs Ladder.
