A panel of women from the University of Cambridge, World Rugby, local community and elite performance sport will discuss the barriers to, and opportunities for, engaging girls and women in sport and exercise.

Tammy Parlour



Tammy Parlour MBE co-founded Women’s Sport Trust in 2012 and leads the organisation as CEO. She was awarded an MBE in the New Year 2019 Honours List for services to gender equality in sport. 

Tammy is a Master in the Korean martial art of Hapkido, having practiced for over 35 years. She set up her own Hapkido and meditation school in the early 90’s and coaches most evenings.  Tammy holds an MSc in Strength & Conditioning, and post-graduate study into Applied Sport Psychology. In her spare time she interviews leaders in sport for her podcast and competes in Powerlifting as a masters athlete.

Phyllis Agbo



Phyllis Agbo has been a lover of sport from a young age.  Settling on Cricket and Athletics as a teenager, it was Athletics that she decided to concentrate on, competing internationally for over 15 years, mainly as a Heptathlete.  This included representing Great Britain & NI in many European League fixtures as well as England at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.  Phyllis gained a full Blue in a number of Athletics disciplines during her time at Cambridge, competing in three Varsity matches.  Since retiring from the sport about six years ago, she has qualified as a Chartered Surveyor, now working in Residential Development.


Deborah Griffin



From the first time she picked up a rugby ball at University, Deborah has been involved in the administration of the game.  A founding member of the Women's Rugby Football Union (WRFU) in 1983, Chair of the Committee organising the first Women's World Cup in 1991, Chair of the Rugby Football Union for Women (RFUW) 2005 to 2012 and first women on the RFU Council in 2010 and elected to the Board in 2014.  In 2018, she became the RFUs third representative on World Rugby Council alongside 17 other newly-elected women.  Deborah qualified as a Chartered Accountant and spent most of her career in the hotel and leisure industries.  She became Bursar at Homerton College in 2012.


Debbie Kaye



Debbie is Head of Community Services at Cambridge City Council and a Vice Chair of the Chief Cultural and Leisure Officers Association (CLOA). Previously she was the national local authority representative on the ukactive Membership Council.

Debbie has a wide range of experience at senior management level in local authority service that has covered sport, leisure, growth, public health, culture, parks, play, grant funding, place-making and the hosting of major public events such as the Tour de France.

Debbie lives in Cambridge and having retired from playing football and hockey, is now a lido and park run tourist. 


Karen Pearce



Karen is Deputy Director of Sport at the University of Cambridge. She is also Fellow of Wolfson College and Senior Member of the Ospreys.  Karen was part of the East Regional Sports Board from 2006-2008, prioritising Exchequer / Lottery funding to 40+ regional projects per annum to meet Sport England targets.

Karen is currently undertaking research into the development of Women's Sport at the University of Cambridge focusing on the period from 1869-1921.

Karen has played hockey at National League Level, cricket for England Universities and rowed for her College 1st boat as well as completing the odd ultra-marathon along the way! Having retired from competitive sport, Karen now enjoys running and, in particular, participating or volunteering at her local parkrun with her daughter.
