Farewell to the Sports Centre - Cara's Final Blog

A year at the Sports Centre has flown by. Last time you heard from me I was only just settling in to full time work at the Sports Centre, but unfortunately now it is time for me to move on. I have learnt so much working here and am excited for what the future holds.

Before I joined the Sports Centre I had never taught a fitness class. In my first class I was so nervous and found it hard to find my style. Now after teaching lots of classes and attending a few myself I’ve found my style of teaching and look forward to taking this skill away with me. The great thing about teaching classes is the opportunity to interact with members and build a rapport with them, and I hope that I’ve been able to help them improve with every class I took.

I’ve always loved attending classes myself. With the shift pattern that I worked it was difficult for me to try as many classes as I would have liked, but I did manage to do Orsi’s Zumba on a Thursday evening and Kate’s Yoga for Sport during Thursday Lunchtime. Two very different classes, but both brilliant in their own right. Orsi’s Zumba is a great chance to dance and have fun while working out at the same time, and Kate’s Yoga for Sport is an opportunity to relax, destress and have a good stretch.  Both these classes have shown me that there is an exercise class for everyone.

I really enjoyed working with Alex on developing and running children’s multisport parties, which so far have been a great success. I’m sad to leave the project behind after getting it off to such a great start, but I know that whoever steps in to carry it forward will do a great job.

I want to thank all the sports centre staff. I have never worked in an environment where I have felt so welcome by every single person, and felt so comfortable with approaching anyone with any problems I faced. I will greatly miss Cambridge but I am excited for the coming months.
