About Us
The Cruising Club is a University sailing and windsurfing club with sections organising Team Racing, Dinghy Sailing (training, social sailing and fleet racing), and Windsurfing for members of Cambridge University.
Sailors and windsurfers of all abilities are welcome, from people used to competing at the highest levels of the sport, through those who are happy with a short sail followed by a trip to the pub, to those who have never set foot on a board before and are looking for training. Cambridge sailing and windsurfing offers a huge variety of opportunities - there will definitely be something for you!
Team Racing is a major section of the CUCrC, with mixed teams currently competing (and winning) at the very top of the University league, in the British Universities Sailing Association (BUSA) Championships, and of course in the Varsity Match, and a Ladies team which competes in select events. Training takes place two or three times per week in our two flights of Firefly dinghies at Grafham Water.
Sailing is one of the oldest sports at the University. The CUCrC was formed in 1893 with the first Varsity Match against Oxford University held in 1912. Sailing has been a (discretionary) Full Blue sport since 1982. Windsurfing was introduced 40 years ago and continues to be as strong and active section of the Club.
Yachting ('big boat' stuff), formerly a section of the Club, is a separate University club in its own right.
