James Powley

James has over 25 years of Squash coaching experience worldwide in Qatar, South Africa and in the UK, and he is currently an England Squash Level 4 coach and tutor.

Before coming to the University Sports Centre James was the Head Squash Coach at Hunts County Squash Club for 9 years.  During this time he has built up the club and its Coaching Programme and has developed juniors and adults from beginners to professional level.  James also competed on the PSA circuit (Highest world ranking #176, 2002 – 2004) and has won the National Racketball Championships twice, Over 40 category in 2012 and Over 45 in 2017.

He is been working as the Head Squash Coach at the University of Cambridge Sports Centre since January 2015 and in this time has integrated and helped develop both the Cambridge Squash Club and the Cambridge University Squash Rackets Club at the Sports Centre plus developing the Fives.  The Squash section within the Sports Centre has a very active internal leagues with approx 17 leagues and 100 players, a junior Squash club on Saturday mornings from 09:30am andopen night on Monday evenings.  The Fives section is also growing with various try it sessions and Schools Coaching during the day.  James only started playing/getting involved with Fives since joining the Sports Centre and says that if you are looking for a new challenge or sport to get involved in then look no further than Fives.
