Brock Locnikar, Lucy Cavendish, CU American Football Club
Brock loves sport more than anything. His love for playing shows in him running from rugby games to our practices, or vice-versa. He is a hard worker, makes everyone around him better, and helps keep the club at the standards that we desire.
Brock is also a bright personality outside of practices and gameday. Probably the most social person I have ever met, Brock is a friendly face and good for a laugh no matter where I happen to bump into him. His constant dedication to being a social figure binds the team together, whether it is during team socials or just bumping into people around town.
Brock is an enigma. To define him in just 1000 characters seems impossible, he is the kind of person that will stick in my mind for years to come. For the Pythons, CURUFC and the greater Cambridge Sport environment, people like Brock are what makes everything work.
Cosmo Calesini, Downing, CU Taekwondo Club
Cosmo has made an excellent contribution to CUTKD through his role as president. Despite his busy role as a medical student, he attends nearly all sessions including beginners which makes him a recognisable and friendly face around the club. Cosmo participated in all events at all of the BSTF competitions and in Varsity while also coaching, filming, updating social media and organising logistics. He also travelled to enthusiastically support the beginners' team even though he wasn't competing. Cosmo has the primary responsibility for decision-making and organisation at CUTKD and leads the committee admirably. He communicates promptly and effectively with club members and the coaches; he puts in the hard administrative work that allows CUTKD to function seamlessly. Cosmo's effective leadership in addition to an impressive presentation at the AGM resulted in him being re-elected as president unanimously. He also made an awesome speech after our annual dinner!
Ela Deren, Churchill, CU Dance Competition Team
Ela Deren is the heart and soul of the Cambridge University Dance Competition Team (CUDCT). Competing in 4 different sub-teams, Ela was integral not only to the success of the team at national competitions and in winning Varsity, but in creating a close-knit community centred around teamwork, dedication and positivity. Ela is always the first to bring people together, through constantly making an effort to chat to different members of the team, keeping moods up through difficult conditioning sessions and cheering her teammates on louder than anyone else. Ela took on the CUDCT TikTok this year, creating entertaining videos that fostered excitement for Varsity, including a viral video with nearly 30,000 views. Ela also brought her dog to Varsity as a mascot, providing some much-needed laughter on a stressful day with its personalised CUDCT merch. As a source of light, laughter, and friendship on the team, she is undoubtedly deserving of the Sports Club Personality of the Year award.
Kit Bradshaw, Hughes Hall, CU Equestrian Team
Kit is a first year and immediately jumped at the chance of trialling for the BUCS teams and being on the committee social secretary. She has been wonderful at organising fun, welcoming social events all year, and has really become the heart and soul of our team. She has an infectious energy and great sense of humour, that really lifts our spirits when we are stressed or taking ourselves too seriously. I honestly feel having Kit around has helped stay relaxed whilst focused at matches and has played a role in the club's BUCS successes this year (two teams qualifying for Nationals). She will make an excellent President next year, and I am sure will bring in many new members to the club. I am looking forward to working with her as I continue on as Captain.
Raghav Misra, Magdalene, CU Table Tennis Club
Raghav embodies the joy of sport and has been a transformative presence in Cambridge table tennis. His dedication to improving his game, his humility, and his ability to balance hard work with genuine love for playing inspire everyone around him. As secretary and later president, he shaped the club’s culture through leadership, kindness and relentless support- motivating teammates at BUCS even while ill, staying late to cheer others on, leading sessions when needed, and making every member feel valued. He builds team spirit effortlessly, from Varsity to exam‑term lunches, and looks out for those struggling socially. A skilled player, a patient teacher, and the club’s emotional anchor, he consistently puts others first. His trademark call is “fight”, but he fights far more for his teammates than for himself.
