CU Cycling Club
Cambridge University Cycling Club (CUCC) performed outstandingly at BUCS races, with results including: BUCS 10 Mile Time Trial Championship - 1st open TT bike, 1st female road bike, 2nd open road bike, 2nd open team, 3rd female Team;
BUCS Hill Climb Championship - 3rd open individual, 3rd female individual, 1st open team, 2nd female team; BUCS Track Championship - 4th open team pursuit, 4th female team pursuit;
BUCS Team Time Trial Championship - 1st open team, 2nd female team;
BUCS 25 Mile Time Trial Championship - 1st open TT bike, 1st female TT bike, 3rd open TT bike. 1st open road bike, 1st Open team, 1st Female TT team.
CUCC won open Hill Climb Varsity, open road bike Varsity and female road bike Varsity.
Cambridge University Cycling Club have also supported participation by hosting races free of charge for members. Our Freshers’ Time Trial and Cuppers Time Trial saw record attendance of 40 and 60 riders each, representing 17% and 48% annual growth in participants respectively.
CU Dance Competition Team
This year has been the most successful year in CUDCT history. We won Varsity by a significant margin, returning the shield to Cambridge. At Leeds Competition, we were the highest scoring university overall, placed in five out of our nine categories (an almost unheard-of achievement) and received two special awards in addition to this.
At Loughborough Competition (the UK’s biggest national dance competition), we received a 1st place with one judge giving our Advanced Contemporary a perfect score (also unheard of!). We scored extremely highly at all competitions, and had our choreography repeatedly praised by professional judges (including them posting it on their Instagram stories and offering some of our dancers jobs in the industry).
We have overcome injuries and remained an extremely close-knit team. Leading the team last year was the pleasure of my life, and I firmly believe that the CUDCT is a team of remarkable talent and success that deserves celebrating.
CU Karate Club
CUKC has had an exceptional year, marked by major competitive success, record participation and strengthened international links. The club recruited over 50 new members, built its largest BUCS squad in five years and earned medals across the season, including bronzes at the Birmingham Karate Open and both silver and bronze at BUCS, with the silver qualifying for EUSA. CUKC also secured its 19th Varsity win in 20 years.
A major highlight was hosting the International University Karate Meeting, welcoming over 80 participants from UK, Irish and Japanese universities and 12 Japanese sensei, creating a seminar on a scale rarely achieved by a student club. This year also marked CUKC’s 50th anniversary, celebrated through expanded training, joint sessions, alumni engagement and an upcoming exchange with Keio University. Sponsorship from Blitz and subsidised access supported sustainable growth and wider participation.
CU Equestrian Club
All sporting teams of the club have had a phenomenal year. The 3s only missing out on regionals due to the draw meaning they had to compete against our twos for the final pool match, so at that point only one of our teams could go to regionals.
Qualifying for either trophy or championship nationals is a fantastic achievement which has eluded the club for several years. In each league, six of the competing 68 teams qualify for nationals. So, to be in the top six for both trophy and championship shows the club has a lot of depth and reveals the strength of our training.
At trophy regionals our riders placed 1st, 2nd, 4th and 6th out of 12 competitors. At championship regionals our riders placed 2nd, 3rd, 8th and 9th. These individual placings again highlight the club wide superb performance this year, and mean had the team not qualified we would have had multiple individual nationals qualifications. Hopefully the success of the whole club will continue to Varsity and nationals.
CU Table Tennis Club
Cambridge University Table Tennis Club has had an outstanding year, combining strong competitive results with clear growth across the club. At BUCS Individuals, Joseph Hee finished 2nd overall, showcasing Cambridge table tennis at the highest university level. The Men’s first team won the BUCS Conference Cup, while the Women’s team reached the semi-finals, capping a strong BUCS campaign. This was followed by a tightly contested Varsity victory, built on constant team support.
Beyond results, CUTTC has made significant progress in participation and development. Female participation has grown, with a Women’s 2nd team created for the first time. The newly formed BUCS Men’s 2 team also finished 2nd in its division, showing the club’s increasing depth. We redesigned College League and Cuppers into a more accessible format, including doubles, increasing participation across Colleges. This has been a year of competitive success, structural growth, and lasting impact.
