Student Workshops - 2019/20 Season

During the 2019/20 Season, the Sports Service will be organsing a range of workshops for members of registered Sports Clubs. Details of this, and the booking form will appear below. 


Michaelmas 2019

Tuesday 29 October 2019 18:00 - 19:30 - 'Studies, Sport and Sleep: strategies for juggling the juggle' - Dr Sarah Gilchrist.

The presentation will focus on what sleep is, its general architecture and why its important to address your sleep so poor sleep doesn’t affect the students’ performance in sport and/or study.  The presentation will provide a proactive approach to managing sleep, studying and sport, including discussions on strategies for good sleep/downtime. 

Sarah has been working at the heart of the UK high performance sport system since 1999 including acting as Technical Lead at the English Institute of Sport and being a front line senior physiologist for the Great Britain Rowing Team (2007-2016) and GB Badminton (in the lead up to Athens Olympics).  

Having worked with a variety of sports from team, racket and endurance, she has excellent first-hand experience of being a practitioner in high performance sport. Sarah has a professional doctorate in recovery, specifically, sleep and downtime.

Oliver Whiteman is has completed an MSc in Sport & Exercise Nutrition and a BSc in Sport & Exercise Science. He is accredited by the Sport & Exercise Nutrition Register (SENr). He has combined his education and experince to help support some of the most talented athletes in the UK.
