Cambridge University Orienteering Club
About Us
Founded in 1970, CUOC is now one of the oldest and most-active university orienteering clubs in the UK. The club consistently finishes within the top five positions at BUCS, thanks to the high level of technical and physical training offered to its members.
Orienteering is navigation racing. Competitors travel to control points marked on a map as fast as possible. Hence it is both a physical sport, requiring a high level of fitness to run over rough terrain, as well as a mental sport, requiring fast decision making under pressure.
Each week we travel to a different area in or around Cambridge for technical orienteering training. We organise a training camp in the UK at the end of Michaelmas term as well as trips to races and extra trips abroad during the holidays. We are a friendly and inclusive club, open to all abilities. Our weekly orienteering training is usually followed by a pizza social.
One of the club's greatest strengths is the development of its athletes; many new or inexperienced orienteers go on to perform well at major competitions such as BUCS, the JK and the Scottish Six Days. More experienced orienteers have earned Full Blue status and progressed to representing their countries at international competitions.
