Welfare Officer Training

Mandatory for new Club Welfare Officers

The training, Essential Skills for Supporting Students, is delivered by the Students' Union Advice Service and provides attendees with tools to support their role as a Welfare Officer.

As per the Welfare @ Sport guide, each club must have a dedicated, trained Welfare Officer who can ensure the wellbeing of club members, by confidently signposting students to a range of different support services where necessary, and playing a key role in ensuring all club activity is inclusive and appropriate. This is an important role in club committees, and training is provided free of charge. We want to ensure that Officers are equipped as well as possible to deal with any issues that may arise in their club. If the elected Welfare Officer for your club feels that they already have suitable training to carry out the role, please let us know - sometimes individuals have undertaken separate training, for example Mental Health First Aid, which suitably qualifies them to carry out the role.

The Welfare@Sport guides also details where Welfare Officers can look to for support, including through the Sports Service. Contact us on welfare@sport.cam.ac.uk if you need support or have concerns within your club.

The next training sessions will take place online on:

  • Friday 29th September, 2 - 5 PM
  • Monday 9th October, 3 - 6 PM

Please email Registration@sport.cam.ac.uk if you require training but are unable to attend. If you have attended before then you do not need to re-attend, but if you'd like to re-attend and refresh your memory, please let us know as we will prioritise space for new attendees.

Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. If required, we will facilitate further courses later during term.

If you need to cancel your place, please email us at Registration@sport.cam.ac.uk with as much notice as possible.
