Open Days 2020

Welcome to Cambridge!

Cambridge offers a diverse range of competitive and recreational sporting opportunities to help you lead a healthy and active lifestyle alongside your academic studies. The Sports Service offers a variety of world class facilities and outstanding support services to ensure a positive student experience.

Whether you want to continue playing what you love or try something new, we have over 80 sports clubs and societies, accommodating everyone from beginners to elite athletes – there is something for everyone. Visit the Sports Fair at the beginning of Michaelmas to meet the Sports Service team and our clubs, and find out about how to get involved with sport and keep active.

Sport and Activity for Everyone

Ranging from National League hockey to casual badminton, there are plenty of ways to compete or stay active. A wide range of group fitness classes, beginner’s strength and conditioning and personal programmes are just a few ways to stay active.

Many University teams compete in BUCS competitions throughout the season and there is also an extensive range of sports available via inter-college competition. The climax of the sporting calendar for many Light Blue clubs is their Varsity Match against Oxford, where the chance to play our Dark Blue rivals and earn a University Blue is a highlight for any competitor during their time at Cambridge.

Wilberforce Road Sports Ground includes provision for athletics with an 8 lane track (10x100m) and all associated field events. In 2018, a £2.5 million investment into an additional two hockey pitches has taken our provision to 3 sand-dressed pitches, making it the biggest hockey facility in the area.

Fenner’s Cricket and Tennis Ground located in the City Centre has a three lane indoor cricket school and first class cricket pitch where the University and college matches take place, and 3 hard and 8 grass tennis courts complete the Ground, which hosts a range of national competitions annually.
