ROWING - MAY BUMPS 2010
Sunday 13 June 2010
In the Men's Divisions, First and Third Trinity rowed over on the fourth day of racing to complete a hatrick of May Bump's titles. On Day three Caius mounted a real challenge to the leaders and were within a canvas of the headship. But Caius themselves were under pressure from Pembroke who had moved up to third with bumps on both of the first two days. However the top three crews fought of their respective challenges to row over on day three. The Trinity crew managed to hold off the challenges and finished with a healthy lead on the final day as Pembroke caught Caius to finish in second.
It was a similar story in the women's race where Pembroke maintained their status at the Head of the River for the third time in succession. Pembroke made it look easy on the final day, opening up an early gap of 1½ lengths from the start before finishing more than five lengths clear of their rivals. Downing who had moved from fifth to second on day one with an overbump on Jesus were unable to catch the strong Pembroke crew and rowed over for the third time. A successful campaign from Christ's saw them move from 7th to 3rd to earn their blades.
