THE OSPREYS: RAISING THE PROFILE OF WOMEN'S SPORT IN CAMBRIDGE

The Ospreys is the Society for sportswomen of the University of Cambridge. The society spans across 43 sports with over 1000 current and alumni members all of whom have achieved Blues, Half Blues and or University Colours. The aim of the Society is to raise the profile of women’s sport at the University of Cambridge, support teams and individual sportswomen and establish a clear identity for the Ospreys within the University of Cambridge.

The Society has been tremendously successful at attracting sponsorship over the last 20 years which has enabled it to support women’s sport at Cambridge. With the help of its current sponsors, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, JP Morgan and Barclays Capital, the club arranges networking events for students with high profile international athletes and business people and provides bursaries for teams and individuals.

The Club has over thousand current and alumnae members. The Alumnae Committee was established in 1998 and had a successful launch at Shakespeare’s Globe with over 300 Ospreys in attendance and an event at the House of Parliament. After a pause in activities, they are now planning to re-establish a regular program of annual events for members and wish to reconnect with existing Osprey members and welcome new alumnae sportswomen to the Society.

The Ospreys’ Alumnae Committee will be hosting a free drinks reception in London on Thursday 18th March. There has already been a very positive response to the event and many sports teams are attending before going on to reunion dinners. If you are interested in hearing about the event or the Ospreys then please email your name and contact details (email, address, phone) ideally including your college, sport and year of matriculation to:ospreys@cantab.net
