MOUNTAIN BIKING - Varsity Match Report 2011
Saturday 26 March 2011
As has been a theme for a number of years, Cambridge once again dominated Varsity mountain biking placing four riders in front of the first Oxford finisher. The race took part at Heath Warren woods In Hampshire and was dominated by narrow twisty descents interspersed with short sharp climbs.
The Early pace was set by Shaun Hurrell who was soon joined by Andy Nichols. The two former schoolmates were together until the final lap when Nichols attacked on an uphill fire road section. Despite gaining time on the technical sections of the course, Hurrell was unable to close the gap. George Bate completed the podium to secure a Cambridge victory.
