Staff

Cambridge University has a lot to offer members of staff wishing to take part in sport and exercise. Whether you want to get fitter, play a sport socially, play at Club level or on the International Stage, Cambridge can help you achieve your goals.

Fenner’s Facilities Suite
During 2009, the University Fitness Suite at Fenner’s underwent a major refurbishment and now houses £50,000 worth of the latest cardiovascular equipment, complete with Freeview TV and iPod connectivity. Fenner’s has a great atmosphere, fantastic functional, fitness equipment and highly qualified and friendly staff to help you achieve your goals.  For more information visit our Facilities Section

Athletics User Card

The University has a UK Athletics grade 1 athletics track (floodlit for training purposes). University Staff can take out a Track User Card to access the facilities outside of bookings. For more details see the Athletics Track Card section.

Sports Facilities available to Hire
The athletics track, floodlit sand-based synthetic hockey surface and Indoor Cricket School can be booked by Staff groups. There are also opportunities to book the Gym (Basketball Court) and Circuit Room, when they are not booked by Student Societies. For more information visit our Facilities Pages.

Sports Clubs
The sports scene in Cambridge is huge.  As well as team games, water sports, martial arts, racket sports and aquatics there are plenty of other more unusual and extreme sports available. Some University Sports Clubs cater for University Staff either as training members, playing members (in certain competitions/leagues) or as social members. To find out what is available in a particular sport visit the Club website.

Alternatively there is a broad range of Community Clubs to suit all ages and abilities. For more information visit the City Council Sports Club list or contact the PE Officer or Assistant Director who will be happy to give you some advice on what is available in the area.

Watching Sport
All Cambridge University Sports Clubs compete against Oxford each year in a Varsity Match. These matches are hugely competitive and exciting to watch. They also have regular fixtures against other University, Community Clubs, County and, in some cases, national teams. Beyond this, University Sports Facilities regularly host County and Regional competitions. Our Events Calendar will be updated regularly with fixture information, ticket prices (many events are free) and how to book.

Volunteering
University Sports Club, Community Clubs and groups, Schools and the PE Department are always on the look out for volunteers who can help with organizing events and activities, coaching, administration and umpiring. In partnership with Student Community Action, the PE Department helps place University staff with community sports groups in and around Cambridge as Volunteers. It's not just the community that benefit from the scheme as many of our current volunteers have found the experience incredibly rewarding. Have a look at our Volunteering Section to find out how you could help.
