MCC Universities
At the start of the 2005 cricket season, MCC announced that it would be supporting the University Centres of Cricketing Excellence to the tune of almost £1.2million over the next three years.
The six centres - at Cambridge, Cardiff/Glamorgan, Durham, Leeds/Bradford, Loughborough and Oxford - each receives annual financial support from the MCC for facilities, coaching, video analysis, sports science and medical support.
The initiative is aimed at male cricketers with the potential to play, or who are already playing, first-class cricket, and female cricketers of senior, county, regional or England standard. It intends to provide the best of both worlds to talented cricketers who wish to continue with an academic career - an excellent cricketing education giving the chance to fulfil ambitions, while career opportunities outside of the game remain unaffected.

THE CAMBRIDGE CENTRE FOR CRICKETING EXCELLENCE
First Class Cricket has been played at Cambridge University, and on its beautiful grounds at Fenner's for well over a century. Cambridge has an established tradition of producing cricketers who compete at the highest levels of the likes of Majod Kahn, Peter May, Ted Dexter, Deryck Murray and more recently Derek Pringle, Michael Atherton, Steve James and John Crawley. The creation of the Centre of Excellence provides an exciting opportunity to continue this tradition. A recently re-laid wicket, plans for a purpose built indoor cricket school, an established sports injuries clinic at Addenbrooke's hospital, internationally renowned research units, working in areas such as nutrition, physiology and psychology will assist in the production of cricketing and academic excellence.
